Prepare to fuel your speed as Puma unveils their limited Ultra 5 Ultimate football boot, inspired by the legacy of Ayrton Senna—the legendary Formula 1 driver whose passion for racing earned him the accolade of being one of the greatest in the sport’s history.
Who is Ayrton Senna?
Renowned for his exceptional contributions to motorsport, Ayrton Senna da Silva was born on March 21, 1960, in São Paulo, Brazil.
From a young age, Senna developed a passion for karting, quickly showcasing an exceptional talent on the track. His skill earned him numerous titles, including the coveted South American Karting Championship in 1977.
Driven by his early success, Senna soon moved to Europe to further his racing career. Competing in various karting events, he later transitioned to single-seater racing, where he continued to excel.
His most notable achievement during this time was winning the 1981 Formula Ford 1600 Championship, followed by victories in both the British and European Formula Ford 2000 Championships.
In 1983, Senna’s meteoric rise continued as he claimed the British Formula Three Championship, catching the attention of several Formula One teams.
With his growing reputation among F1 executives and multiple prestigious accolades in junior categories, Senna secured test drives with several F1 teams before making his debut with Toleman in 1984.
Senna’s extraordinary talent quickly propelled him into the spotlight of the motorsport world. His impressive performances led to subsequent moves to more competitive teams, including Lotus and McLaren, where he achieved significant success.
Between 1984 and 1993, Senna won multiple World Championship titles, including victories at the Japanese, Brazilian, and European Grands Prix.
Tragically, his illustrious career was cut short in 1994 when he died in an accident during the San Marino Grand Prix. Despite his untimely passing, Senna’s legacy continues to inspire the motorsport world.
Now, looking to pay homage to his legacy, Puma has teamed up with F1 to bring their second motorsport collaboration, following the debut of their ‘Formula Pack’ colourway, with a special focus on the fastest players in the game!
Puma X Senna – What’s the link?
Renowned for their speed-focused designs, Puma has consistently pushed the boundaries of football boot innovation since the debut of the Puma Ultra 1.1 in August 2020. Their goal has always been to help players achieve maximum speed on the pitch.
Drawing from their deep motorsport heritage and prominent role in the sporting world, Puma’s latest advancements are inspired by Formula 1 technology.
By incorporating cutting-edge techniques used to make F1 race cars ultra-light and highly efficient, Puma has introduced revolutionary features like carbon fiber and the refined SPEEDSYSTEM outsole, which is 32% more responsive than its non-carbon predecessors.
This innovation enables instantaneous direction changes and explosive acceleration, allowing players to leave defenders in the dust from the very first step.
To pay homage to one of the most iconic drivers in F1 history, Puma has pulled out all the stops to commemorate Ayrton Senna’s undeniable impact on the sport. This influence continues to resonate with fans and current champions alike.
Puma has incorporated the colours of Brazil’s flag within the signature Form-Strip that dominates the medial side of the boot, along with Senna’s signature in gold.
They have left no stone unturned in this tribute. Most notably, Puma has incorporated elements of Senna’s signature racing attire, including a yellow helmet and red race suit on the upper, with an aerodynamic race strip passing across the visor to visualize speed.
On the soleplate, Puma mirrors the colours used in the Formula 1 logo, emphasizing the revamped “FastTrax” stud configuration. This has been engineered to facilitate rapid acceleration and improved multi-directional movement on the pitch.
To cap it off, “Senna” is clearly displayed on the heel, alongside the signature Puma logo on the PWRTAPE SQD support frame. This not only pays homage to F1 but also highlights the optimal agility and freedom of movement that the Ultra 5 provides.
